3 Steps to Smoothing the Back to School Transition

This Back to School 🏫 Transitions topic is something we normally talk about and support our community with in August to September 📆  time frame, but as we all know too well… the last year has been anything but normal.

And with most of our kids recently making their way back to at least some form of in-person learning (YAY😁!!!), we wanted to launch a ‘Series’ of helpful emails, blogs, posts, and videos over the next few weeks to help your family have as smooth of transition back to school as possible 😊 !

This first post will really lay out 3 Steps to Smoothing Back to School Transitions overall, and then each subsequent one over the next week or two will dive deeper into each of those 5 Steps!

𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙊𝙣𝙚 - 𝘾𝙖𝙡𝙢 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛  🧘‍♂️ 😎

Our kids feed off our energy and emotions like nothing else. If you think their friends and teachers are influential in their life, try being you! ;)

As parents we’ve seen an absolute “surge” of stress 😬  from the lockdowns and remote learning restrictions as well, and while it’s not talked about much at all in the media, it’s the #1 challenge facing families with school-age children right now.

We've seen an absolute explosion in kids and families locked into constant anxiousness, tension, and emotional dysregulation. 😔

If we don’t get our own stress response under control as parents and regulate our emotions, stay focused, get good sleep, keep moving and exercising 🏋️, and staying healthy… how can we expect our kids to?

If you’re running around with your hair on fire 🔥 24/7, then expect your kids to do the same as they try and get their lunch ready, backpack put together, and homework 📚 done.

So parents, these next two steps are just as much for you as they are your kids! You can do this, and if you need help - ask us!

𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙏𝙬𝙤 - 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥, 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥, 𝙎𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙥  🛌  💤

Our brains and bodies go hard all day, every day. Truth is, the less we move and the more we stare at screens 💻 the harder our brain works, and the fried and frazzled it becomes.

That means as our kids start back up actually at school, it’s likely that many of them have been struggling with this step (and the next ones) more than ever before.

You may find they are already struggling to fall asleep on time more during the lockdowns than ever, even though they appear more exhausted and worn out than ever from sitting staring at Zoom 🧑‍💻 all day and not being able to get out and move, socialize, and live life.

Really focus on bedtime ⏰ and good sleep strategies in these coming weeks.

We’ll be sharing tons of strategies to help with that during this Back to School Smooth Transitions Series, but if you’ve tried most everything already and your child still struggles to sleep - get to our next Perfect Storm Workshop where Dr. Tony will teach you what’s causing those sleepless nights for your child (and you), and how to help them naturally.

𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙚: 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚, 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚 🏃 🏃‍♀️

Throughout the restrictions we’ve been encouraging a lot of our families to get their kids FitBits or something similar to help track their steps during the day, because not only does winter ❄️  already slow us down and keep us less mobile… but then add the unfair lockdowns to our kids’ lives, and it’s just not been good.

The brain 🧠  is actually equally charged 🔋 and relaxed by movement, allowing it to better focus (glasses emoji)!

It’s really crazy cool neuroscience when you break it down, and at the same time so stinking simple.

If we move often - our brain works great 💥 !

If we barely move - our brain barely works 💀 .

When the brain isn’t working well, it’s not just going to cause our child to struggle with their homework or academic life… it greatly disrupts their emotions, sleep, immune system, gut and more.

Again parents, if you’ve seen your child’s struggles with Sensory, Anxiety, ADHD, Behavior, Emotional Regulation, Sleep, and more really plummet during the lockdowns and remote learning and you’re honestly stressing to the max about them going back to school, sorting out all the hybrid struggles, following all the new rules, etc… then don’t rely just on this Series for the help you need, absolutely get to The Perfect Storm Workshop with Dr. Tony!

We're keeping the workshop super small to allow for social distancing, and maximum take-home value for parents and providers who attend! We've got just a few spots left for this Thursday's, so don't delay if you need help!

We get you, we've got you, and we've got a plan!
